What is paint correction?
Paint correction is the process of removing defects from a car's paintwork. Swirl marks, fine scratches, water spots, oxidation, buffer trails, random deep scratches from keys or stones. Most of it is permanent damage sitting in the clear coat layer of the paint, and it can't be removed by washing or polishing in the traditional sense. You need machine polishing, the right compounds and pads, and the knowledge to use them properly.
How it works
Before any machine touches the paint, the car is washed thoroughly, decontaminated, and clayed to pull out any embedded particles that could cause more damage during the correction process. Every panel is inspected under high-intensity lighting to map out exactly what's there and how deep it goes.
From there, the correction is done in stages. Heavier compounds cut into the clear coat to remove deeper defects, and progressively finer products are used to refine the finish until the paint reaches the level of clarity and gloss the customer is after. Some jobs require a single stage. Others need two or three passes to get the result right.
The finishing stage is just as important as the cutting stage. Once the defects are removed, the paint needs to be refined, inspected again under lighting, and prepared for whatever protection goes on next, whether that's a paint sealant, a wax, or a ceramic coating.
What to expect from the results
The difference paint correction makes to tired or neglected paintwork is significant. Dark colours that looked dull and scratched in sunlight come back with depth and clarity. Light metallic paints that were covered in swirls start to look clean and sharp again. Gloss paint that's been over-polished with a random orbital and cheap products can be brought back.
